Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services is an established provider of inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services began providing Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services in November 2014. Currently, SBIRT is providing services at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Family Health Services of Erie County, Sandusky Family Practice, Firelands Physician Group Urgent Care, and Huron County Public Health. Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services is able to provide SBIRT services through a grant received from The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addictions Services. The program is available in Erie and Huron Counties with plans to explore expansions in other areas in the future.

The interdisciplinary staff composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, mental health therapists and recreational therapists treats patients with acute emotional problems. The program is designed to help participants reach an improved level of functioning and resume their normal activities at home and in the community. The unit treats adults and geriatric patients and has a special care area for patients needing a more intense level of care.

Access to crisis intervention services is available through Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services outpatient offices during business hours (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) Monday through Friday. These services can also be accessed through the Crisis Hotline at any time.
