The cholesterol clinic at Firelands Regional Medical Center was established to assist physicians in providing safe and effective management of patients with high cholesterol. The clinic is staffed by clinical pharmacists and a registered nurse with specialized training in cardiac care. The clinic’s Medical Director, Ahmad Sabbagh, MD, is board-certified in endocrinology with additional training and certification by the National Lipid Association.
High cholesterol is a disease requiring long-term management of medications to prevent heart attack, stroke or other events. If patients are not monitored and do not reach their goal cholesterol levels, they may experience adverse outcomes and hospitalization that can dramatically impact their overall quality of life. The clinic also specializes in finding alternative ways of treating high cholesterol when patients experience common side effects associated with these medications, such as muscle aches.
Any patient with a diagnosis of high cholesterol may be enrolled. Your physician must complete and send a referral form to the cholesterol clinic. This physician must be someone whom you intend to continue to visit at least once a year. You must be willing and able to come in for an initial one hour appointment with our clinic staff, followed by shorter repeat visits as necessary for monitoring and education.
After the clinic receives a completed referral form, you will be contacted by our staff to discuss your therapy and to arrange your first appointment. During your initial appointment, the pharmacist and nurse will ask questions about your health, diet and medications. A detailed assessment and individualized care plan will be provided at the end of the first visit. In addition, we will provide education classes and numerous other tools to enable you to reach your goals, improve your quality of life and reduce the potential for future hospitalization due to cardiac-related events.
The cholesterol clinic is conveniently located on the second floor of the Firelands Regional Medical Center main campus, 1111 Hayes Ave. The cholesterol clinic hours are as follows:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
