The surgery department at the main campus of Firelands Regional Medical Center provides individualized procedural care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients who are in need of skilled surgical intervention. The goal of the surgery department is to provide the most efficient collaborating team possible to achieve optimum results for patients as they prepare for their procedure including anesthesia, surgical intervention and recovery. The goal is to return patients to their former level of functioning in the family and community or help them become stable for transport to a postoperative nursing unit. The plan of care is designed to assist the patient’s progress toward optimum levels of activity for his or her age, physical and psychological limits and surgical intervention process.

Presurgery testing, a service that allows patients to complete their preliminary lab work, x-rays and other diagnostic testing on an outpatient basis, is available for patients. Presurgical testing eliminates the need for you to be admitted to the hospital for test, prior to your surgery or procedure.
Additional amenities of our surgery department include a spacious waiting room, which is available for family and friends who are waiting for loved ones. The waiting area includes coffee, a play room, private consulting rooms, nearby meditation room, a cafeteria, 14 large private prep rooms with specialized nurses, 17 post-anesthesia care unit cubicles with certified staff trained in advanced life support techniques, and 19 same day recovery private rooms with specialized nurses.
