Imaging Services
Wide ranges of diagnostic imaging procedures are available at Firelands. Including diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, CT scanning, MRI, ultrasound, Angiography and PET. Additionally, Firelands has a Women's Health and Wellness Center where Digital Mammography, DEXA and select ultrasound studies are performed.

The Firelands Regional Medical Center's Imaging Department has accreditations from the American College of Radiology. Firelands Regional Medical Center is also designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. A physician's order is needed for all imaging procedures and in some cases pre-test preparations are required.

Key Offerings:
Catheter Angiography
Catheter Angiography is commonly performed to detect a narrowing or blockage of a blood vessel, to identify abnormally dilated blood vessels, to determine the site of internal bleeding and to perform angioplasty and stent replacement.

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses radiofrequency waves and a strong magnetic field to obtain detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues.

DEXA (Bone Densitometry)
To detect osteoporosis accurately, doctors use an enhanced x-ray technology called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA).

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a subspecialty within the field of radiology. The images are developed based on the detection of energy emitted from a radioactive substance given to the patient intravenously or orally. Generally, radiation to the patient is similar to that resulting from standard x-ray examinations.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging obtains images from inside the body using high frequency sound waves.

CT Scanning
Often called a CAT scan, computer tomography (CT) uses special x-ray equipment to image different angles of the body.

Diagnostic Imaging (X-Ray)
Diagnostic imaging, more commonly known as x-ray, is comprehensive imaging of all of the bony structures of the body as well as lungs and some internal organs.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT)
PET/CT is an imaging procedure that gives physicians information about the body's chemistry, function and exact location of disease.

Mammography

Mammography uses low dose x-rays to image the breasts. Successful treatment of breast cancer is often linked to early diagnosis and mammography plays a key role in early detection.
