The Firelands Hope Line
The Hope Line is staffed by specially trained behavioral health professionals who provide immediate and confidential assistance to callers. The Firelands Hope Line provides:
- Immediate support to those in a crisis.
- Scheduled after-hours support organized by the patient counselor.
- Information and referral resources for those searching for treatment services and services for other needs.
Inpatient care
Additionally, there are times when an individual requires care in a supportive and protective setting. These patients are often referred to our 34-bed inpatient psychiatric unit located at the main campus of Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Inpatient psychiatric admissions are available for those suffering from severe depression and contemplating suicide and/or persons experiencing such significant emotional distress that 24-hour care is needed. The crisis assessment focuses on providing support and care at a difficult time in a person’s life. Ideally, the patient will return home with family and a safety plan. The safety plan can include ongoing support during evenings and weekends as well as follow-up appointments at our outpatient offices the next business day for those not already receiving services elsewhere.
Anyone experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis can access Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services through the Firelands Hope Line*: 567-867-HOPE (4673) or by calling any Firelands Outpatient Behavioral Health offices.
These services are funded partly by the Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board of Erie County, the Huron County Board of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Ottawa and Sandusky counties.
Firelands Regional Medical Center accepts most private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. Additionally, public funds are available to assist based on a sliding fee scale. These funds are made possible through the Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board of Erie County; the Huron County Board of Mental Health and Addiction Services; the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties. If you need assistance paying for services, contact one of our offices located in the county where you live. Our financial counselors are happy to assist you in determining your eligibility for public funds. Services will not be denied based on race, color, sex, national origin, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. All persons are provided with emergency and crisis intervention services regardless of their ability to pay.
