Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Firelands Vocational Rehabilitation Services is a job readiness and placement program for consumers who have a mental health and/or an alcohol or drug addiction diagnosis and need assistance in finding employment. Consumers are taught work readiness and soft employment skills needed to be successful in today’s job market.
Vocational Rehabilitation services are offered to adults and transitional youth in Erie, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties.
Program features
Community-based assessment
A community-based assessment provides an evaluation of the consumer’s vocational abilities, behaviors and preferences in a competitive, integrated work setting. The assessment uses real work experiences on actual job sites to determine an individual’s capabilities and preferences.
Career exploration
The goal of Career Exploration is to assist the consumer in narrowing possible employment options. This service includes a career exploration inventory that helps identify interests in work, and leisure activities to develop a plan leading to career success and/or a transferable skills assessment.
Personal adjustment
A personal adjustment assists consumers in daily living skills that may enhance employability including money management, shopping, grooming and hygiene, using transportation, arranging dependent care and housing issues such as talking to a landlord.
Work adjustment
The work adjustment service assists consumers with understanding the meaning, value and demands of work. It will help learn or re-establish skills, attitudes, personal characteristics and work behaviors.
Job coaching
A job coach will assist the consumer and employer by providing one-on-one training and job-related support services. This is in addition to training approved and/or provided by the employer.
Job development
The job development service assists consumers in choosing, obtaining and maintaining employment that is equal to their vocational interests as well as their abilities and social, psychological, communication, environmental and medical needs.
Job-seeking skills training
Consumers are provided with tools and knowledge to conduct a well-planned and thorough job search. Areas covered include resumes, cover letters, job applications, employer identification, transferable skills identification, interviewing techniques, employment barriers, employer follow-up, self-esteem building, and grooming and hygiene.
Job retention
The job retention service includes contacts with the consumer, the employer, education personnel, and other parties involved with maintaining employment. This service is offered from the time of placement through the case closure.
