Comprehensive Medication Review
If you’re like many patients, you’re taking medications prescribed by more than one provider. You also could be taking medicines that, when combined, may:
- Reduce their effectiveness
- Cause serious side effects
A comprehensive medication review (CMR) is a one-on-one review of your medicines with a pharmacist.
What are the benefits of a medication review?
Guidance
The pharmacist will provide one-on-one time with the patient or caregiver, answer any questions and provide information as needed, such as the best time of day to take each medication or the risks of skipping a dose. The pharmacist will help you compile a list of questions, about your medications, to discuss with your doctor.
Cost savings
Meeting with the pharmacist may save you money. The pharmacist may find a lower cost for a drug or help find financial assistance.
Safety
The pharmacist will look at all of your medications to check for interactions and review your routine for taking them.
Reduce side effects
You may be experiencing side effects and not even know it. If an issue is discovered, the prescribing pharmacists will work with the prescribing provider to fix it.
What you need for your review
- Your medicine bottles (with the pharmacy’s label) or a complete list of medication information including name, dosage, and any over-the-counter medicines, herbal remedies, and supplements
- A pen and paper for taking notes
- Your doctors’ names
Cost
Most Medicare plans cover the comprehensive medication review clinic. If you have private insurance, please verify this is a covered benefit.

Pharmacogenetic testing
It's all about the right medication, at the right dose, at the right time. Pharmacogenomics (PGx) uses a person’s genetic profile to help doctors predict their drug response and direct them to prescribe the right medications at the right dose.
