What is Primary Care?
Primary care addresses the majority of a person’s health needs throughout their lifetime, including physical, mental, and social well-being. The focus is on the whole individual rather than on the illness of a specific organ, system, or disease. It aims to improve the entire health and well-being of a person by preventing or solving any health problems that may arise.

Primary Care Services
If your goal is to find the best primary care physicians for you and your family, you are already on the right path. Patients with a primary care provider (PCP) have better management of chronic diseases, lower overall healthcare costs, and a higher level of satisfaction with their healthcare.
For optimal health, every person should find the best primary care doctors for their needs and use them as their "medical home." Firelands Physician Group primary care is an evidence-based practice that follows a team approach to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. Our patients are a partner with their provider and care team to ensure coordinated, high-quality, and accessible healthcare.
Our primary care providers are Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as well as participate in the advanced primary care program, Primary Care First, with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). These programs focus on delivering advanced-level care to benefit our patient outcomes and experience.
Types of primary care providers can vary from doctors specializing in internal medicine, family medicine, or pediatrics. All types of primary care providers are meant to be your long-term resource for day-to-day healthcare needs.
Family Medicine
Family medicine physicians work with both children and adult patients. They generally work in an outpatient setting, diagnosing and treating various diseases. They also perform physicals, health screenings and provide general preventive care. Family physicians receive extensive training in order to treat most conditions and provide comprehensive healthcare for everyone, regardless of age.
Internal Medicine
Internal medicine is another specialty within the primary care family. Internal medicine physicians, also called internists, work only with adult and geriatric patients and specialize in diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease. They also provide health screenings and general preventive medicine. Some work in hospitals, while others work in clinics or doctors' offices.
Pediatrician
A pediatrician is concerned with children's physical, emotional, and social health from birth to young adulthood. Care encompasses a broad spectrum of health services ranging from preventive healthcare to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic diseases. A pediatrician deals with biological, social, and environmental influences on the developing child.
Nurse Practitioner
A nurse practitioner is a nurse who is qualified to deliver care and treat medical conditions without the direct supervision of a doctor. All nurse practitioners must complete a master's or doctoral degree program and have advanced clinical training beyond their initial professional registered nurse preparation. Many patients choose to see a nurse practitioner in place of a physician.
