Prolotherapy

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatment and stem cell therapy

Firelands Physician Group is always looking for ways to better treat you and your family, especially when it comes to your comfort and increasing mobility.

If you are seeking non-surgical options to treat pain and discomfort in your joints, or from arthritis, or other degenerative diseases, you may be interested in our new and exciting non-surgical options.

What is PRP therapy?

Using your body’s own blood and concentrated platelets (plasma), your physician will inject the injury site with plasma to promote healing in the affected area. Since plasma has a greater concentration of whole blood cells, it encourages healing much faster.

This treatment is ideal for the following issues:

  • Injured tendons and ligaments
  • Joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Other various musculoskeletal problems

There are very few side effects of PRP injections as you are using your body’s own blood. Rest is required following the procedure, then usually followed by some light rehabilitation. PRP is not covered by insurance. Please speak to your doctor regarding the cost.

What is stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy is another non-surgical option that utilizes your body’s own stem cells to help heal the area of injury. While there are several types of stem cells, those that are best at promoting musculoskeletal healing (tendon, ligament, cartilage, and bone) are found in the bone marrow. Retrieving your bone marrow is an outpatient procedure that only uses local anesthesia.

Your bone marrow will then be injected into the area of injury to help promote healing and reduce inflammation.

Some benefits of stem cell therapy include:

  • An increase in joint function, flexibility, and range of motion
  • Reduction of pain
  • Reduction in need for pain medications
  • The return to normal activity much more quickly than surgery

There are few PRP injection side effects, since you are using your body’s own blood. Rest is required following the procedure, then usually followed by some light rehabilitation. Stem cell therapy is not covered by insurance. Please speak to your doctor regarding prolotherapy cost, since it can vary depending on the specific treatment.
