Men and women of any age can receive specialized physical therapy for pain or dysfunction of the pelvic floor. Pelvic pain and urinary incontinence are common, and these symptoms and conditions can be successfully treated with physical therapy:
- Bowel dysfunction, including loss of bladder control, irritable bowel syndrome, and constipation
- Issues pre-or post-partum
- Pelvic floor muscular weakness
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pre- or post-abdominal surgery
- Pre- or post-gynecological surgery, such as cesarean section, episiotomy or hysterectomy
- Pre- or post-radiation therapy
- Sexual dysfunctions
- Urinary incontinence – stress, urge, functional or mixed
Pelvic floor physical therapy sessions are in a private one-on-one setting. Treatments depend on your condition and may include, but be limited to, lifestyle and behavioral modifications and strength and relaxation exercises with biofeedback.
